How We Can Help You Step By Step

We Listen to Your Story

All of our initial appointments are one hour long. This enables us to have plenty of time to listen to your story to provide the best quality care to you. You will be asked about details of your symptoms and how they are impacting your life, and many other questions about your medical history.

You do not need a referral to see us. However if you have any specialist letters, GP referrals or results of relevant medical investigations this can help us in your treatment.

Comprehensive Assessment

Your physiotherapist will perform many tests to understand the function of your Vestibular System. This includes tests of your eye and head movement, as well as your balance and walking stability. The assessment is enhanced by the use of Infra-Red Goggle technology - these are necessary to accurately examine vestibular conditions. These goggles provide a close-up view of how your eyes are moving with different tests, and this can tell us a lot about if you have any issues with your Vestibular System.

We use all of this information in combination with your history to identify the cause of your problems and so why you are experiencing vestibular symptoms like vertigo, dizziness or imbalance.

Explanation of Your Symptoms

Vestibular conditions can be confusing - most of us will not have even heard of the vestibular system before! At Equilibrium Rehab, we believe in clearly explaining the cause of your symptoms, without the medical jargon. Your physiotherapist will discuss your diagnosis and answer any questions you may have. They will then explain expected timeframes, establish a treatment plan and outline how to achieve your goals.

Treatment Tailored to Helping You

There are many ways to treat vestibular conditions, and often it takes a combination of treatments to get the best result. Your physiotherapist will guide you through what would likely suit you best. Treatment options include exercises to train your vestibular system, advice about triggers and how to manage them, lifestyle factors and in the case of BPPV repositioning techniques. Often your physiotherapist will do a report to your doctor and can also discuss further investigation options if necessary.

We will arrange a series of follow-up consultations at suitable and appropriate times, options for troubleshooting any problems with your program, and guidance for progress of your program.

Lastly and most importantly we will provide the ongoing support you need to achieve the outcome that you desire from your program.
